So how DO you Justify Investing in Personal Development ?

(usually said with raised eyebrows and a quizzical expression) I've always believed that Personal Development has high leverage potential for individual and corporate success. For those of you who'd like something to quote when you're trying to get budget for this kind of input, how about these:

Mentoring clients get Promoted!

All but one of my mentoring clients over the past three years have been or are being promoted right now. The other one wanted a simpler life so has changed roles and is far happier than he was.

Divisional Executive Team saves the day for the global business!

The Lads with Charm I wrote about last year have worked miracles with their organisation - by improving working relationships and reducing company politics, theirs is the only division consistently exceeding targets and bailing out the rest of the group. *** phone/email for a copy of the case history with theoretical backdrop ***

Managing Director transforms Career Prospects!

You may remember my client who did Smiley Associates with me. Before doing it he was out of control of his use of time, letting people down and in fear for his job - his self-esteem was not high - even though his business was meeting targets. We spoke the other day and he is moving on from his role as MD - he has two global offers within the parent company plus two head hunter offers to run new startup businesses. His self-esteem is much higher now! He says it is directly attributable to the work we did together. I believe it is also a testament to his determination to apply the learning.

Consultants - Masters of the Universe?

Channel 4 thinks consultants are 'The Masters of the Universe' - what a terrifying thought! Following my phenomenological research into 'The experience senior executives have of using external consultants' I really can't agree. The dynamics revealed by my research have up to now been 'secret' - operating largely on the subconscious level, so the client isn't even aware of them - and consultants have little chance of discovering them in the course of work. That's why I decided to offer workshops based on the findings. My core skill as a facilitator of experiential learning and personal development enables me to assist clients and consultants alike to 'discover' the dynamics and enhance their individual or collective approach to the client:consultant relationship.

Feedback from the workshops has been gushing.

  • CLIENTS - private sessions on your premises are now available;
  • CONSULTANTS - join us in November for the workshop.

Executive Team make a Fool of themselves .. on Purpose!

A very serious group joined me for a Team Self-Assessment over a three month period. We all suspected that humour was in there somewhere, and we were proved right - when they put their vision for the team to music. Somehow Queen's immortal rendition of 'Flash' stimulated a group of self-appointed Crusaders prancing around wearing plastic macs and with champagne coolers worn as helmets. We nearly died laughing. If everyone leading an organisation could put their egos aside like this for just a little while, wouldn't life be more fun? Perhaps we'd even waste less time being over-serious about ourselves? I gather that the team can't keep a straight face for long anymore when any of its members try to take themselves too seriously, and that Board meetings are significantly more productive.

Creative Developments ...

Since the last news sheet I've been investigating alternative media and interventions to help enhance and extend the range of my facilitation and mentoring - including dance, drumming, drawing and painting, improvisation movement, photography and archetype work. These can all be very useful to help with expressing creativity at work. I've also come across some very talented people in these areas. So if anyone would like to know more about this, or is seeking help with their creativity and would like to explore these fascinating and enjoyable options, get in touch.
